Winter Saskatchewan, Canada 2025
We travelled further north to Saskatchewan, Canada in February 2025 in the hope, this time of finding snow. We did. We drove over 12,000 miles in the 4 weeks we were there; driving as far North as Prince Albert and down to Vidora and Climax in the South West, near the Montana border and across to Froude in the east. We experienced temperatures ranging from -44 degrees Centigrade up to +5 in the last week with the snow thinning rapidly!
We had mapped out the abandoned places we wanted to visit prior to our departure and so we had a planned route. However, on the days when we experienced blue skies (there were several !); we did, on occasions return to those places when the cloud cover and weather conditions were better. Inevitably there were some places we couldn't find and others that we found with the help of very friendly locals or we just came across them on our travels. Sadly, some places no longer exist, deteriorated to extinction by the severe weather conditions or burnt down by landowners concerned about litigation if anyone was to have an accident on their land.
I had hoped to use my favourite Canon EF 24mm Tilt and Shift lens, however, the temperature was so cold I felt I couldn't linger with spending time using the lens. The majority of these images were taken with my RF 24-105 lens, focus stacking as required. However, there are a few images taken with the Tilt and Shift lens when there was no wind and conditions a little more comfortable - and the odd one with my 100-500mm zoom lens.
