Winter Saskatchewan, Canada, 2026
We had decided to visit Alberta in February 2026, However, with a report that there was hardly any snow there; we decided to spend most of our 4 weeks travelling and photographing abandonments in Saskatchewan. Some were new places that we found along the way and others were our favourites from our previous visit. The terrain was changed this time with hardly any deep snow and most places having vegetation showing through. It made the photographs different again. We tried to keep to the east of Saskatchewan where the warm winds of the Chinook were less effective and the snow cover better. Because we were trying our best to follow the snow; we did wander in to Manitoba for a few days returning to Saskatchewan and eventually heading westwards where there was very little snow in places. Needless to say, we covered plenty of mileage - approximately 9,000 miles.
This time, I mainly used a Sony A1 mk2, again focus stacking mostly. I just wished it had a proper Bulb switch and a timer that starts at 1 going upwards rather than counting down a set amount. Next year, I will be back to my trusty Canon (with a proper Bulb switch and a great timer). I will be using my Sony for my Street Photography which is why I bought it in the first place!
