In August 2024, I visited Western Greenland for the first time, flying in to Ilulissat - an amazing plane journey in itself with spectacular views from above and a very short runway to land on!
The icebergs are incredible, seen over a 5 day period in changing light and weather. We were on a sailing boat from 8pm till 1am, starting in daylight with a gradual shift to evening as time went on. Obviously photographing from a boat had its own issues: a fast shutter speed had to be used as the camera was handheld and also to compensate for the boat and sea movement. It also meant that the ISO was increased as it became darker as well as a wider aperture. In a short time I had got use to timing the shutter with the sea swell and bracing against the boat's structure. Having a sister sailing boat with red sails helped to compliment the scenery on occasions. I hope you enjoy these images.
